Women love you in

Nothing spells bad boy better than a fedora hat. Should you don one?

Why wear it?
"The resurgence in the popularity of hats is an excellent way to expand a dull wardrobe-which most men's armoires are pegged to be-and of course to cover a balding head," says Ajjampur. Innocently perched on the head, it still draws many compliments on a bold look.

How should I wear it?
Equate it to your watch: Always select the best quality. A hat is where function meets fashion. "I personally love the Ecuadorian Panama or Trilby with the tear drop crown," she says. You won't find many men emulating the classic tuxedo-fedora match for formal occasions.

"New age is casual so loose white button-down shirts, tank tops and classic khaki shorts are fedora possibilities". Always try on your hat for a good fit and for summer try cotton twill, Panama leaves or linen. To make Indian winters more wintry, go for leather, velvet or wool tweeds.

What should I avoid?
"You're playing debonair, not muscling jock. Sweats, soccer shorts, your basketball uniform (or cricket jersey) or bulky jacket: These are what a favoured baseball cap, or a beanie goes with. Not a fedora." Give it the respect it deserves by getting for a shampoo-that way when you take it off for a lady, she'll see hair she wants to run her fingers through! If you feel you can't pull it off, go graze in other clothing pastures.

Where should I buy?
Upscale from the frayed straw clones you'd get in fl ea markets. For qualitative fabric variety and textures based on seasons, try Corneliani, Hermes or Emporio Armani (Rs 5,000 onwards). Or Tie Rack London, Zara Man, Pall Mall and Sisley (Rs 2,000-5,000). If it's the month-end and you still want to look stylish, try Punk, Edge or United Colors of Benetton (below Rs 2,000).
